Gross Polowy is hosting an event to help Strike Out Cystic Fibrosis! Review the attached flyer for details. Cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening, genetic disease that causes persistent lung infections and progressively limits the ability to breathe.

  • In the United States about 30,000 people are living with cystic fibrosis (70,000 worldwide).
  • Approximately 1,000 new cases of CF are diagnosed each year.
  • More than 75 percent of people with CF are diagnosed by age 2.
  • Nearly half of the CF population is age 18 or older.

Amy Polowy Has Been Nominated as Rising Star 2015 of Cystic Fibrosis Foundation

Amy Polowy has been nominated by her peers to be a Rising Star as part of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The event is an eight-week campaign that honors a group of young professionals who work to find a cure for CF through their careers.

cffCystic fibrosis is a devastating genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. More than ten million Americans are symptomless carriers of the defective CF gene. When the Foundation began in 1955, most children with CF did not live to see their first day of elementary school. Today, the median predicted age of survival for a person with CF is in the mid-30s. Since beginning collections in June 2007, Unyts (Upstate New York Transplant Services) has become the primary supplier of blood products for ECMC, Kaleida Health, and all the hospitals in Niagara and Wyoming Counties. Our local hospitals need to maintain an adequate supply of blood for emergency situations and it is up to Unyts and the generosity of donors to help provide safe levels of blood inventory.
